Book Review: Forbidden By: Tabitha Suzuma

Today is the release date!!! click HERE to purchase it!

This book is not for the faint of heart, thats for sure. It tells with a very highly taboo subject that isn't discussed very often at all, and definitely not in the young adult genre. This book deals with a brother and sister that fall in love with each other, and enter into a romantic relationship. Lochan and Maya had a truly heartbreaking story, and more disgusting then their relationship together was the lack of their mother figure. There lack of having a mother who was stable and a constant in their lifes in my opinion was what lead them to their inappropriate relationship. They acted as the parents for their three younger siblings. They had to do it all; manage high school, feeding, and just taking care of their siblings and make sure they were well-taken care of so that the state didn't question their home enviroment, and eventally lead to them all being split up in foster care.

This story was absolutly heart-breaking, i've read a lot of young adult and adult books, and this one tops the list of most heartbreaking. The circumstances and the outcome is utterly heartbreaking. Yes, parts of this story are disturbing and you have to remind yourself that they are infact brother and sister. You need to be able to have an open mind with this book, and honestly I felt horrible for them, more then I felt sickened by them. I think their home situation they were put in due to the lack of a stable mother, ultimately lead them to their relationship, they were infact forced to act as mother and father at a younge age, and I think that made the situation easier to swallow.

I know a lot of readers that started reading this and couldn't finish, because of the taboo subject, but I also know that those that have stuck with it have found it be a great book, and truly recieved something from it. I would tell you to pick this up and give it a try, and just keep an open mind.

Book Review: Raven By: Suzy Turner

ReadingNook Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Wow Wow Wow, I don't even know where to begin with this review, so let me start here. Usually I am very skeptical when it comes to reading books with a paranormal aspect and I think that it's because they are so far-fetched in regards to reality that I have a hard time connecting with the characters, but this book changed that for me for sure. In fact, i'm going as far as to say that THIS IS the BEST paranormal YA book that i've ever read.

Lilly is stuck in England with an unloving mother and a barely there father, so when both of her parents disappear, Lilly gets uprooted and moved to her grandfather who she's never met halfway across the world in British Columbia, Canada. Lilly is in for a lot of suprises though, when everything and I mean everything she thought she knew about her life gets turned upside down!

This story honestly gripped me from the first page and held on tight until the last page. My only complaint about this book was that it wasn't long enough, I got to the last sentance and was devastated that the story was over, but thrilled to learn that this is the first in a series. Book 2 is due out this September, and you better believe i'll be counting down the days until I can get my hands on this book. I honestly could sing my praises for this book for days, but instead i'm going to give you a word of advice and tell you to go pick up this book and read it, I promise you will not want to miss out on this series!

Chick Lit Plus Blog Tour: Starring in the Movie of my Life

ReadingNook Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

This story fluctuates between two female characters points of view. Melody an 18-year old high school senior who is manipliative and seeking attention from others because she lacks that comfort at home, and 35 year old Samantha, who wears her heart on her sleeve and makes rash decesions but the best of intentions. Both of their worlds collide and both have the power to dramatically alter the story of each others lives, but will they do that, or will they make the right decisions for themselves.

I honestly really enjoyed this story, I had a love-hate relationship with Melody because of her malipliative and cold acts that she commits against others including her best friend Kelsey. I did sympathize with her though because of the horrible home live she had to deal with, and i'm sorry but anyone with a mother like hers is point to have emotional problems for sure.

Samantha I had more compassion for, I was rooting for her and her ex, Collin honestly. I liked their relationship and although they had some rough patches in their past, I still could feel their deep-rooted connection.

Laurel has a beautiful writing style, it was fun, sad, and entertaining the whole way through. I got super-invested in the story and didn't want to put it down most of the time, because I simply had to know which way the story was going, and what was going to happen next. If you like chick-lit and contemporary dramas, I would definitely recommend this book to you, it was entertaining from start to finish.

ChickLit Blog Tours: Hollywood Ending by: Lucie Simone

ReadingNook Rating: 2.5 stars out of 5

Trina Stewart is trying to live the hollywood dream. She's not trying to become an actress but instead wants to be on the otherside behind the camera. Her 100,000 debt will prove that she's taken the necessary steps to get where she wants so why can't she find that dream job to get her where she wants to be. When a sexy neighbor moves in the vacant apartment upstairs but too bad he seems repelled by Trina.

Unfortantlly the characters didn't invest too much important for me. I found them to be almost on the verge of annoying, and I couldn't stay focused in the storyline and plot I felt it kinda moved all over the place. I didn't enjoy the relationship between Trina and Matiu, it fustrated me honestly and felt their arguements were petty didn't warrant the outcomes that they did.

On the up-side, I did find this book to be humourous and there are parts in this story that are laugh out loud funny. Lucie Simone definitely understands the chick-lit genre and this book has a little bit of everything, drama, hilarity, and romance.  I wouldn't say you need to run out and buy this book, but it was worth a read, and i'm glad that I had the oppurtunity to read it.

Book Review: Want to Go Private? by Sarah Darer Littman

ReadingNook Rating: 5 of out 5 stars

Want to Go Private is a realistic and powerful look into the reality of teens and the temptation of "meeting" new people online. Being from a generation where AIM was new and exciting, it was very tempting to talk to random people, esp. those who would tell you that you were pretty and showed an interest in you that people in your everyday life might not show you. Abby feel a victim to that in this novel, and I think this book is not only powerful but necessary in a time where social networking sites are all the rage, and children and teens of all ages have access and the knowledge to use such internet sites as Facebook and Myspace, etc. I think most people have the "it would never happen to me" mentality, but I think anyone can fall victim to an online predator esp. at an age where you're are at your most vunerable.

Abby starts talking to Luke, and he understands her like nobody else does. What starts off as an innocent online friend, becomes something so much more as through their conversations Abby starts trusting Luke more and more and believes that she is falling in love with him. Only when he gains that trust does the conversation change to a more sexually explicit nature and Abby falls victim to the online "love" that she thinks she has found.

Overall, I couldn't put this novel down, I felt for Abby, where at a time she felt alone and that nobody in the world could understand her, she fell victim to Luke's games. I wanted to know what happened to Abby, and if her "love" for Luke would ultimetly lead to her deciding to meet him in real life.

Chick Lit Plus Blog Tour Review for: Family Pieces by: Misa Rush

ReadingNook Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Wow these chick lits this year are really doing it for me!! this genre gets bad hype for being superfical and flaky and without much substance, but this book def. proves the hype wrong. This book was anything but superficial and flaky. It was so good, in fact I didn't want to put it down, and read it in 3 seperate sittings, all of which spanded at least 75 pages at a time. I loved this book, and cannot fathom where Samatha (chicklitplus.com) is finding all these truly amazing authors, but keep them coming!!

Karsen and her family have always been close in fact they all share a tradition of wearing a puzzle piece charm around there neck to remind them of there bond. When Karsens family gets hit with a tragic accident. Her whole world literally turns upside down and the mother she thought she knew so well, maybe have been hiding a secret that could alter Karsen's picture perfect family forever.

I loved everything about this book, I truly felt for Karsen and the devestation she faced and the strength she had through it all. Her brother was the ideal brother and who wouldn't want him as a brother seriously??! Even Addision (the cold-hearted women) I grew to truly love. This book is a whirlwind of emotions and I loved every twist and turn that it took. I need more from MISA RUSH, like NOW!!
